Speaker Additions and Other Changes to the 2009 NALP Annual Education Conference Agenda

The following is a list of changes that have been made since the preliminary conference schedule was published in the registration brochure. The conference manual you received on site contains all changes received through March 19.

NEW AND CANCELLED PROGRAMS

Wednesday

New Session - Associate Deferrals and Public Interest Placements: New Challenges and New Opportunities, 1:45 PM – 3:15 PM
Recently, a number of law firms have announced programs that allow deferred entering associates to work in the public interest for a period of time, with funding. If your law firm is considering – or has established – a public interest placement program for deferred first-year associates, seize this unique and important opportunity to hear from the partner organizations that are critical to making these programs work: public interest law offices. Just as in the law firm community, public interest organizations are facing extraordinarily difficult staffing and resource challenges because of the economy. If firms work closely with public interest organizations, these associate placement programs could provide terrific benefits to both sides. But in order to achieve this success, firms must understand the complicated climate that public interest organizations currently operate in. In many cases, simply providing a willing body and a stipend may not be not enough. Join this panel of public interest leaders for a candid dialogue about how these associate deferral programs can really make a difference.
