Jobs & JD’s: Employment and Salaries of New Law Graduates

NALP, published annually in early July

For three decades, NALP has been conducting an annual survey to determine what types of jobs and salaries were obtained by members of the most recent law school graduating class. Law schools submit data on their graduates as of February 15 following the year of graduation. The report resulting from this collective data, Jobs & J.D.’s (formerly called the Employment Report and Salary Survey), presents information on a wide array of factors, including:

  • what types of jobs graduates found and where they found them;
  • what members of the Class were earning;
  • how earnings varied with geographic location and job type;
  • what sizes of law firms employed the most graduates;
  • which states offered the most job opportunities; and
  • how women and minorities in the Class fared.

Career services professionals seeking to understand their own school’s position in the market (or needing to educate a dean or other administrators regarding that position) will find the analysis by law school characteristic (e.g., private sector vs. public sector orientation, large firm vs. small firm orientation) particularly helpful.
