12.15.11 The Department of Justice has accused Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of discriminating against Latinos. According to The Wall Street Journal Law Blog, "A three-year civil-rights investigation found Mr. Arpaio’s department engaged in racial profiling in traffic stops, retaliation against the sheriff’s critics and poor treatment of Spanish-speaking inmates." of Texas School of Law's Interim Dean, Stephanie Lindquist, has vowed to support an
in-depth review of faculty compensation. Lindquist was selected to replace
Larry Sager after his departure last week.
The Texas Tribune reports, “Tension spiked in the wake of an open
records request filed by three faculty members who intended to highlight, among
other things, gender equity and questions about the management of private funds
from the UT Law School Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises money
to support the law school.” 12.13.11 Street
Law will award Verizon Communications with its 2012 Legal Diversity Pipeline
Award this spring. Volunteers from
Verizon’s legal department volunteer participate in Street Law’s Corporate
Pipeline Program and the NALP/Street Law Legal Diversity Pipeline Program. In 2012 Verizon
UK will join the company's
legal diversity pipeline efforts as participants in the Citizenship Foundation’s
Lawyer’s In Schools program in Reading, England. Read Street Law’s announcement.
