21st Century Legal Career Series Volume 7 - The Administrative Law Revolution

21st Century Legal Career Series Volume 7 - The Administrative Law Revolution

Richard L. Hermann, 2017.

Administrative litigation is one of the hottest law practice areas going, and it is heating up even more, as two demographic phenomena are hitting the U.S. at the same time: (1) Age. 78 million Baby Boomers (Americans born between 1946 and 1964) are “aging up” at a rate of 10,000 per day (this is not a misprint). The first Boomers turned 65 in 2011, launching a phenomenon that will not end until 2029. That is a lot of potential new clients coming on scene daily. (2) Veterans. The U.S. now has 26 million veterans. More than 8 million Vietnam Era veterans are now in their 60s and 70s and are applying for disability benefits in large numbers. More than 50 percent of the 2.6 million Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans are filing disability claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Board of Veterans Appeals (BVA). In addition, the more than 500,000 Desert Storm vets are also aging up and will soon hit the magic age of 50, when disability claims escalate. In addition to the “Big Three”—Social Security Disability Income cases, Medicare appeals, and Veterans appeals, a variety of other federal and state forums hear administrative cases.

Find out about the benefits of practicing administrative litigation in Volume 7 of the 21st Century Legal Career Series, The Administrative Law Revolution Learning to Litigate in a Forgiving Environment.
