2024 Report on Diversity in U.S. Law Firms

New research from NALP shows record levels of representation for women, people of color, and LGBTQ lawyers. However, the summer associate data signals this growth could be sluggish in coming years, particularly for Black or African American individuals, who experienced the second consecutive year of declining representation within the summer associate ranks.

US Survey on 2024 Lateral Hiring

NALP is conducting a short, ten-question survey to measure changes in lawyer lateral hiring in 2024 as compared to 2023 at U.S. law offices. Submit your office's responses by the extended deadline of Friday, January 17.

2025 Canadian Associate Salary Survey

This new survey collects benchmarking data on associate salaries and bonuses, in addition to articling and summer student compensation at Canadian law offices. Please report salary data as of January 1 and submit your survey by Friday, January 31. A separate U.S. survey will open for U.S. employers in mid-January.

Common Application for First-Year Diversity Fellowship Programs

NALP's First-Year Diversity Recruiting Task Force has created a new Common Application for First-Year Diversity Fellowship Programs. Because students are applying for fellowships at the same time they are studying for exams, this is a critically stressful period for students. The Task Force is hopeful that the common application will decrease the workload on students applying for these fellowships, as well as increase the number of applications received by firms.

NALP believes in fairness, facts and the power of a diverse community.

We work every day to be the best career services, recruitment, and professional development organization in the world because we want the lawyers and law students we serve to have an ethical recruiting system, employment data they can trust, and expert advisers to guide and support them in every stage of their careers
