Well-Being Interest Group

The well-being of our lawyers, law students and members continues to be of great importance and interest. The Well-Being Interest Group is a community for NALP members who have an interest in or responsibility for the well-being of law students and lawyers. The Interest Group is sponsored by the Well-Being Steering Committee.  The Well-Being Steering Committee will convene both NALP members and section well-being champions who will lead in the field of well-being of law students and lawyers.  The Well-Being Interest Group will be the public forum for members interested in well-being.

Work Groups:

Annual Education Conference / Bulletin+ Article and Webinar Planning
Brainstorm with section members to develop ideas and identify speakers for the 2023 Annual Education Conference and topics for Bulletin+ articles. Assist members through the completion of the RFP processes for both. Consider the production of educational webinars throughout the year.

Wellness Fundamentals / Well-being Circles
Continue with the former Well-Being Interest Group’s development of well-being circles. Modeled after mentoring circles, groups will check in with each other to discuss topics of interest and share tools to help navigate member well-being. Meetings with discussion topics will be held at least once per quarter.

Best Practices Guide and Resource List
The work group will collect information for drafting a best practices guide and resource list examining how member organizations develop and structure a wellness program. After conducting member interviews, the information will be compiled and revised prior to submission to the Board.

Well-Being Communications
Develop a schedule of topics highlighting well-being tips or resources from members and external sources for publication in NALPnow!. Collaborate with NALP staff on details for the communication.

Well-Being in the Recruitment Process
This group will continue the work of the Well-Being in the Recruitment Process Task Force by encouraging NALP members to review their own recruitment processes though the lens of student and lawyer well-being.

Environmental Scanning
Conduct environmental scanning and compile relevant information regarding well-being initiatives at law schools and with legal employers. Identify trends and ideas for activities for members and the students and lawyers with whom they work.

Member Relations
Reach out to new members on a regular basis to welcome them to the section. Educate new and continuing members about ways to get involved. Consider contacting members from other sections and groups to encourage them to join. Consider partnering with sections for joint programs or articles, such as the DEI Section, the Recruiting Section and the Law Student and Lawyer Professional Development Sections.

Knowledge Management and Resource Implementation
Identify top resources relevant to the section and collaborate with the KM/RI Advisory Group to explore location options for the compilation to provide easy access. Ensure NALPconnect is used for section communications.
