Longtime NALP Executive Director James Leipold to Retire in October 2022
NALP to launch comprehensive search for successor

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After 18 years as NALP’s Executive Director, James Leipold has decided to retire from the organization in October 2022.

“Jim leaves NALP in a strong position on every front. During his tenure, NALP’s importance and influence in the legal industry have grown, and we look forward to NALP’s continued leadership in research and education that supports law students and lawyers in their career development. While we will miss Jim and his many contributions, his retirement presents NALP with an exciting opportunity to reassess our priorities, look for additional ways to increase member value, and infuse new leadership into the organization. We are grateful that Jim has given us significant notice, and we anticipate no disruptions to NALP’s work over the coming months,” said Traci Mundy Jenkins, NALP Board President.

“I am proud of what we have accomplished together over the past 18 years. We’ve weathered the Great Recession and the onset of the COVID pandemic, and I am proud of the role the association has played in supporting our member institutions during these challenging times,” Leipold said. “The most rewarding part of serving as NALP’s Executive Director has always been getting to know our extraordinary members and the good work that they do. I have also been exceptionally lucky to be supported by the most talented and dedicated staff a leader could ever hope to work with. I look forward to collaborating with the NALP Board and staff to ensure a smooth transition to the new leadership in October of next year.”

NALP will conduct a search across North America for the new Executive Director. The NALP Board, informed by a newly appointed Transition Task Force made up of Board members and former Board Presidents, will lead the search and select a search firm through a competitive RFP process. NALP’s core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion will be central to the search. The Board intends to have a new Executive Director in place by October 2022.
