In recent months, shifts in the legal recruiting landscape have drawn increased attention across the profession. Increasingly, NALP is concerned that some practices may place undue pressure on students in ways that both affect their well-being and their ability to fully engage in their legal education. Class of 2025 Canadian Articling Snapshot Survey
NALP's Class of 2025 Canadian Articling Snapshot Survey is now available for input by Canadian law school members! This survey collects information that is the basis for the only national benchmarking report on employment and articling outcomes for Canadian law graduates. The value of this annual report and the amount of information it contains depends on your law school's participation in the survey. An Excel survey template is available on the NALP website to assist in compiling your data; however, all survey information must be submitted via the web-based survey. Complete your law school's survey by Friday, June 12.
2026 Canadian Survey of Legal Career Professionals
This biennial survey collects information that is the basis for the only comprehensive benchmarking resource on salaries, job duties, and other topics related to Canadian-based legal career professionals. This report is only possible with broad participation from professionals like you. The survey is available online through Friday, June 26. A PDF version of the survey is posted on the NALP website to help you compile your information, but all responses must be submitted via the online survey. (Individuals working at law schools should not participate. A separate law school survey will be administered in 2027.) Learn more.

The Impact of Affirmative Action Bans on BigLaw Positions and Federal Clerkships
NALP research reveals that graduates of color consistently experience lower rates of employment — both overall and within jobs requiring bar admission. Black, Native, and Indigenous graduates are also significantly underrepresented in private practice, while graduates of color more broadly are underrepresented in federal clerkships, both of which often serve as gateways to the highest-paying and some of the most influential roles in the profession.
